The”European bioeconomy University”is born,an international partnership among 6 institutes

The six main European universities in the world of bioeconomy aim at joining forces to develop research,teaching and innovation activities in this field. Starting from a project launched by the University of Hohenheim(Germany),the universities involved have laid the foundations for the creation of the”European Bioeconomy University”consortium: a project that aims at making the European economy more efficient in terms of resources,which is sustainable,competitive and based on a circular perspective. For the European Union,a knowledge-based bioeconomy plays a key role in the development of new products such as bioplastics and chemicals extracted from renewable resources and chemicals obtained from the biomass for the chemical industry for various industrial sectors. In 2012,the European Union introduced its Bioeconomy Strategy,paving the way to a sustainable and future-oriented economy,based on renewable resources. The new EU roadmap for 2018 shows the wish to promote further developments in this direction.”European Bioeconomy University”: this is the name of the working programme which the six leading European universities working in the field of bioeconomy will develop. The universities involved are: University of Bologna(Italy),University of Eastern Finland(Finland),University of Hohenheim(Germany),AgroParisTech-Paris Institute of Technology for Life,Food and Environmental Sciences(France),University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences,Vienna(Austria)and Wageningen University and Research(Netherlands).
