A study was conducted to determine the chemical composition of rice irrigated with effluents contaminated water flowing in Khari river of middle Gujarat region (India). Twenty - Twenty samples of rice plant at harvest were collected from both contaminated and uncontaminated location of the area of Nawagam- Vatava region of Gujarat (India) where effluent canal is passed. The plant samples of grain, straw and husk of rice were used for analysis of total P, K, S, trace and heavy metals. The analytical results of rice grain, straw and husk samples indicated that the P, K and S were higher in samples of uncontaminated area except K in rice straw and husk were higher in uncontaminated area as compared to contaminated area. The micronutrients content werehigher in rice grain, straw and husk of contaminated area than in uncontaminated area. Further, it was noted that among the different micronutrients, the Cu content in rice grain and husk was 40 and 48 per cent higher than samples of uncontaminated area.Further, all the heavy metals were more concentrated in rice grain, straw and husk parts in contaminated area. Among the heavy metals, the contamination of Pb, Cr and Ni was found quite higher in all three components of rice in contaminated area. The Crcontent of grain, straw and husk of rice in contaminated area were higher by 52.8,44.7 and 91.8 per cent over uncontaminated area.
