Shell puts faith in strong demand growth

A repeat of last year's unprecedented volume of fnal investment decisions (FIDs) on new liquefaction capacity is unlikely, but new LNG projects still need to be approved to meet growing demand in the second half of this decade, Shell says. The frm, which has the world's largest LNG portfolio, says in its LNG Outlook 2020 that a record 71mn t/yr of capacity received the green light last year, double what the company expected a year ago and triple the 2018 level. A repeat of new project approvals at 2019 levels could turn into a “scary” situation for investors, Shell ofcials say.
