Petronas targeted for bigger payout

Malaysian state-owned oil firm Petronas will pay an extra $2bn to the government in 2018 — the first sign that a surprise change of government earlier this year will add to its costs. The company plans to pay a dividend of 24bn ringgit ($5.8bn) to Kuala Lumpur in 2018, up by 50pc from 16bn ringgit last year and almost equal to the company’s entire profit of 26.6bn ringgit in January-June.
