Bolsonaro presidency augurs pro-market path

Brazil's president-elect, Jair Bolsonaro, is expected to maintain the pro-market energy policies of his predecessor Michel Temer when he takes office next year, after winning a second-round election on 29 October. The far-right former army captain received around 55pc of the vote in the ballot, compared with 44pc for Fernando Haddad. The latter, representing the scandal-tainted PT party, stood in for former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is serving a 12-year jail sentence for corruption.
