Pemex lays out shallow-water plans

Mexico awarded 16 of the 35 shallow-water blocks on offer in its latest licensing round on 27 March. The Gulf of Mexico’s prolific Southeast basin — where foreign operators enjoyed significant exploration success at the Zama and Amoca prospects last year — drew the strongest interest. Total, Shell, Italy’s Eni and Spanish firm Repsol were among the winners. But state-owned Pemex came out on top. Pemex’s upstream director of resources, reserves and associations, Ulises Hernandez Romano, spoke to Argus. Edited highlights follow:
