Russia's Novatek thinks bigger

Leading Russian independent natural gas producer Novatek wants to produce as much LNG as Qatar, the world's largest exporter. Deputy chairman Mark Gyetvay outlined the company's "huge ambitions" at the Russian Energy Forum in London on 22 June. But he did not say when the firm aims to reach output parity with Qatar, which has 77mn t/yr of production capacity. The country exported 104.4bn m~3 (76mn t) of natural gas as LNG last year, according to BP's Statistical Review of World Energy - comparable to Russian state-controlled Gazprom's combined pipeline deliveries to Germany, Turkey, Italy and France.
