Mayor Sadiq Khan's new London Plan is intended to halt the loss of warehouse sites to housebuilders. But can it provide workable solutions fast enough to stop a crisis? David Thame reports. High on the list of strikingly obvious facts is that London is growing fast. The population is rising - up to 9.8m by 2025 - and demand for employment land and housing is higher every year. According to JLL take-up of West London industrial floorspace was up 4% in 2017, totalling 3.3m sq ft. Nobody expects the growth to stop.
