The effect of bio-priming on getinination and deterioration control of flax seeds (Linum usitatissimum)

Seed lots from two flax cultivars ('Life' and 'Norman') were investigated in two experiments. The first experiment consisted of priming with eight different isolates of Pseudomonas fluoreseens (CHA0, Pf(1), Pf(2), B(16), B(52), B(54), B(56) and B(75)), 10 isolates of Trichoderma harzianwn (TI0, T13, T17, T29, T32, T34, T36, T39, T40 and T41) and two isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae (M1 and M2), together with a hydropriming and no priming control. Most priming treatments enhanced germination parameters but some had negative effects. In 'Life, T36, M2 and Pf(2) resulted in non-significant increases in germination percentage compared with the control (88%). The increase for 'Norman' was higher and significant. The second experiment comprised storage for 31, 53, 93 and 130 days and priming with T40 and T36 for 'Norman', T39 and M2 for 'Life, and CHAO and Pf(2) for both cultivars with non-inoculation as the control. For both varieties, with increasing storage duration, all germination criteria showed a decreasing trend. However, inoculation with some isolates, 140 and CHAO in 'Norman' and T39 and Pf(2) in 'Life' reduced the negative effect of storage.
