Long-term budget talks hit impasse with lesser CAP cuts on the table

A deal to settle the EU's financial framework for the next seven years remains within reach, European Council President Van Rompuy has claimed, despite the collapse of the talks between EU leaders late last week. Negotiations over the bloc's 'multiannual financial framework' (MFF) for 2014-2020 were halted on Friday (November 23) when it became clear that no agreement was possible on a compromise package which would see overall EU spending cut in real terms for the first time in the bloc's history.
