BIR RELEASES 10TH STEEL RECYCLING REPORT

The Ferrous Division of the Bureau of International Recycling (Brussels) released the 10th edition of "World Steel Recycling in Figures" in May. The report, which contains data from 2014 to 2018, shows that compared with 2017, in 2018 the world saw 4.5% growth in crude steel output, a 12% increase in "scrap-intensive" electric-arc furnace production of steel, but also a nearly 12% increase in production of direct-reduced iron, which can substitute for scrap in EAFsteelmaking.
