Support for British farmers under the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) could halve over the next decade, according to new analysis from Andersons farm business consultancy. Commenting on the current shape of the CAP reform proposals, an Andersons spokesman said that he did not foresee direct support ending after 2013, but that it was "almost certain" to result in lower farm payments. "The SPS will continue in a recognisable form. But in the current economic climate, national governments are unlikely to be keen to increase their funding of the EU budget. Therefore, it seems likely that CAP funding will fall - possibly phasing down in the years to 2020."
