Each year, the Equipment Dealers Association (EDA) publishes its Dealer-Manufacturer Relations Survey. The survey provides equipment dealers with a chance to rate the companies that they represent in 11 various categories - such as product quality, availability and technical support; parts availability, quality and return policy; communication, warranty and marketing/advertising support - as well as a stand-alone rating for "Overall Satisfaction" on a scale of 1-7 for each category. This year's report was compiled by using the data provided by each of the 2,224 dealer contacts that chose to participate in the survey. Results are then compiled anonymously - from all 50 U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces - and distributed to EDA dealer members and the manufacturers named in the survey report for comparison, analysis and review. Outdoor power equipment (OPE) manufacturers tend to rate higher than the other manufacturer categories, and consistently have strong overall satisfaction ratings among the dealers they serve. EDA Vice President of Industry Relations, Joe Dykes, believes that one reason for this consistency could be the fact that "many of the OPE manufacturers are still family owned businesses and some [are] still managed by first and second generations who started the business. These companies had to work hard to get dealers to agree to represent and sell their products, so they had to excel in the categories which dealers rate companies in the survey."
