Farm Council: Trilogue compromises to be sought

EU agriculture ministers were being briefed on the state of play of the CAP 'trilogue' talks with the European Parliament and Commission on Monday as Agra Europe went to press, with stand-offs on a number of key issues continuing. The Irish Presidency, representing member states in the negotiations, updated governments on the negotiations at the Farm Council meeting and was seeking approval for some compromises with MEPs to move the talks forward. Differences persist on the make-up of new support schemes for young and small-scale farmers, new rules to ensure only 'active' farmers receive CAP funds and whether there should be a compulsory ceiling on the biggest subsidies.
