Sebaceous adenocarcinoma in a Hamster (Mesocricetus auratus)

A 1-year-old female intact Hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) presented with a large mass on her cervical region. Based on the history, the mass developed during the previous 2 months and appetite was normal. On initial physical examination a large firm round mass was palpated near her neck and her general health was normal. The tumor excised under anesthesia was composed of lobules surrounded by fibrovascular stroma, neoplastic cells with moderate cytoplasm and hyperchromatic, pleomorphic nuclei with prominent nucleoli. Some of the neoplastic cells contained intracytoplasmic lipid vacuoles and mitotic figures were frequent. According to history, physical examination and histopathology, the excised mass was confirmed as sebaceous adenocarcinoma.
