Ireland and EU12 are biggest winners in farmer income gains, Eurostat reports

Ireland has joined with newer member states in leading the EU's farming sector for gains in income, according to a recent publication by statistical agency Eurostat. The 2012 edition of the pocketbook on agriculture, fisheries and forestry demonstrates the disparities between changes in farming income across European nations. The formula, known as 'indicator A' used for calculating the real average income of farmers has shown a 27.5% increase amongst Irish farmers for the year 2010-2011, the highestin Western Europe.
