UK 'ahead of the curve' in meat export growth

Rising global demand for high quality beef and lamb is allowing the UK to expand exports despite its prices being among the highest in the world, delegates heard at a major industry event last week. Addressing the English Beef and Lamb Executive's (EBLEX) annual export conference, farming minister David Heath said UK meat exports to third countries were "ahead of the curve" when compared to other EU member states. The value of UK meat exports to countries outside the EU increased by around 80% between 2009 and 2012, while the EU-27 as a whole grew by around 75%, he noted.
