For occupational scientists and occupational therapy researchers, it can be a challenge to identify and take up an existing theory or framework that is the "just right" fit for their work, which often involves describing the deep, multifaceted nature of human experience. As Joseph Maxwell writes in his introduction to Reason & Rigor: How Conceptual Frameworks Guide Research, 2nd Edition, "Reality is always more complex than any theory can completely capture, and you need to construct a conceptual framework that takes account of this complexity and avoids gross oversimplifications of the things you are studying, as best you can" (p, xii). Adopting the approach of Ravitch and Riggan (2017), which encourages the scholar to engage multiple perspectives with one another, is a useful frame from which to work.
