Weather critical for EU potato harvest

The EU potato industry is at a turning point and its future direction will be determined by weather conditions in the next few weeks. At stake are raw material supplies for an expanding processing industry. Heavy showers have fallen in parts of the main growing areas but cover has been far from uniform and Germany has received little benefit from them. New crop yields are pitiful and tubers are very small, prompting a scramble by processors to snap up any available old crop supplies.
