Exploitation of Untapped Oil in Shallower Oil Rim Section of Horizontal Wells in Panna Field: A Success Story

Panna is a mature carbonate oil & gas field located adjacent to B&S field in the western offshore region of India. The field has a thin oil rim reservoir of 20m column, overlain by a large gas cap and underlain by aquifer, with a common gas-oil and oil-water contacts at 1737 m and 1757 m TVD (in Mukta & Bassein Formation). Globally it has always been a challenge to exploit such reservoir due to premature gas and water breakthroughs and coning development, restricting the deliverability of the wells. After the field came into JV's fold (PMT Joint Venture), horizontal wells with multilaterals were drilled to have maximum reservoir exposure and completed with segmented liner completion along with sliding sleeves. These wells were landed at a stand-off from Gas Oil Contact/Oil Water Contact to improve the well recovery by reducing the drawdown and coning development.
