Oil Spills into Port Valdez,Alaska

On Sunday,12 April 2020,an oil spill was reported in the Valdez Marine Terminal small boat harbor at Port Valdez(Alaska,USA).An overflowing drain sump located uphill of the harbor was identified as the culprit.An investigation into the flow of the spilled oil is still underway.As many as 240 people have been involved in the response effort and a Unified Command was formed.Crews set booms to contain the oil and have been able to gradually reduce the designated contamination zone.More than 50,000 gallons(1,190 barrels)of oily water has been recovered so far.The oil is being separated from the water off site to determine exactly how much oil is involved.
