Australia's drive to push its international gas exports to 80 million tonnes per annum by 2020 is under threat from increasing global competition, worker shortages and higher costs. While around 70% of the LNG projects under construction in the world are in Australia, a recent report by Australia's Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (BREE) warns that the skills bottleneck is at the heart of Australia's high costs, with some companies already looking at importing workers from overseas.
