This article presents information concerning the scope of certain activities and works at the Volumetric Forming and Automation of Production Department (BO) and the Department for Development of Special Forging Instrumentation (TW), which have been dealing with volumetric processing and automation of production processes for the last several years. The first part presents issues related to the development of innovative volumetric forming technologies. The issue of precise forging technology is discussed, on which research and development projects were conducted with forges like: Sanha Polska Sp. z o.o. and Fabryka Armatur Swarzedz Sp. z o.o.. Selected results of research on volumetric forming processes, conducted on the order of industrial entities and of research on CuNiSi alloy electrode extrusion technology for manual resistance welding of bus skeleton sheathing are presented. The next part discusses the development and implementation of special PKJ forging instruments. The main advantages and technical capabilities of the new PKJ forging instruments are presented, i.e. their universality, easy tool change and simple design. These features make PKJ instruments very well suited for small- and medium-series production. The final part touches upon the issue of automation of metalworking production processes as well as the special designs implemented by the Institute. The article presents, among others: automation of the precise flashless forging process, automation of the pipe straightening process, forming of railway cart beams and automation of the ring rolling process.
