Bridgestone plans new plant in Akron

Bridgestone Americas Inc. plans to build a dedicated race tyre plant in Akron near its Technical Center. Production could start as early as late 2020; but the entire project will take about four years to complete. The decision to build a dedicated race tyre plant coincides with Bridgestone extending its Firestone race tyre supply contract with IndyCar Series for six additional seasons, through 2025. Bridgestone has been IndyCar's tyre supplier since 1996.
