Proximate composition and elemental contents of three landracerice varieties of Manipur, India

Three landrace rice varieties of Manipur were evaluated for proximate composition and mineral contents. Studies showed higher crude protein (8.75%), carbohydrate (74.16%) in Kumbiphou and crude fat (3.06%) in Moirangphou Khokngangbi. Evaluation in mineral contents showed higher calcium (4.67 mg/100 g) and zinc content (0.32 mg/100 g) in Moirangphou, magnesium (40.73 mg/100 g), and iron (2.74 mg/100 g) in Moirangphou Khokngangbi and manganese (2.63 mg/100 g) in Kumbiphou. Overall maximum mineral contentwas recorded in Moirangphou Khokngangbi. These rice varieties had the potential to serve as source of an energy rich diet with adequate minerals.
