Biological notes on Aspidimorpha (Megaspidomorpha) angolensis Weise, 1896 (Chrysomelidae: Cassidinae: Aspidimorphini): host plant records, immature stages and cycloalexy.

A. angolensis was collected from Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumulanga and North West provinces of South Africa (96 adults), and from Namibia (3 adults) and Zambia (one adult). The oothecae, larvae, pupal thecae from which the adults had emerged, and dry pupae of this species are described. Ipomoea albivenia, I. plebeia and I. arborescens are reported as new hosts for A. angolensis. The clustering of pupal thecae observed at the Lapala Nature Reserve and Vienna Game Farm in South Africa suggested that the larvae exhibited cycloalexy, a defensive strategy where the larvae clustered together in a ring formation when at rest.
