New Solar Plant in Oman Inaugurated with Extruded Structures

GlassPoint Solar inaugurated its Miraah solar plant in Oman, which uses enclosed trough technology. The solar system is constructed of aluminum honeycomb mirrors with an extruded aluminum structure. The thin curved mirrors track the sun throughout the day, focusing heat on pipes containing oilfield water. The concentrated sunlight boils the water to generate steam, which is then injected into the oil reservoir just like steam produced by burning fuel. The system is enclosed in a greenhouse to protect it from high winds, sand, and dust.
