Aluminum extruders tend to work in an environment that is inherently dirty. Hydraulic oil, dust, grease, and other materials can accumulate on equipment and create inefficiencies and hazards. Maintaining cleanliness can promote equipment efficiency, as well as prevent dangerous conditions that can jeopardize the safety of personnel. Due to production requirements, reduced workforces, and lack of available time, many aluminum and extrusion manufacturers tend to put certain tasks on hold until someone can commit to them. In many cases, this becomes an "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" mentality. Unfortunately, this method of equipment maintenance can lead to longer down times due to critical failures, which could have been avoided with preventative maintenance.
