A new plan has been unveiled to bring stranded natural gas on Alaska's North Slope to global markets by way of a floating LNG production center in the Beaufort Sea and the use of Arctic-class LNG carriers in a plan similar to Arctic LNG 2 in Russia.

Alaska- based Qilak LNG has entered into a heads of agreement with Exxon Mobil to supply the needed 560 million cubic feet of gas per day from its Point Thomson field in a 20-year supply deal. The Qilak LNG 1 Project would have an export capacity of 4 million tons/yr with a final investment decision in 2021.
