Suez Canal raises LPG and dry bulk tolls:Shipping

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) is to raise transit tolls for LPG and dry bulk carriers from April. It will leave tarifs unchanged for all other vessel types, including tankers. LPG and dry bulk vessels will pay an additional 5pc. Brokers estimate the current toll for LPG-laden very large gas carriers in a range of $300,000-350,000, compared with $235,000-280,000 for unladen, but exact tarifs vary by individual ship. Capesize dry bulk vessels pay around $200,000 for transit, brokers say. The SCA's rebate policy for dry bulk vessels expired at the end of 2019, so these will face further cost increases.
