摘要

New hybrid bridge piers composed of steel pipe with outer ribs and pre-cast concrete segments, all filled-in with concrete, are proposed. In order to investigate the ultimate strength and ductility, tests were conducted under constant axial loads and cyclic lateral loads. It is concluded that the proposed structure has equivalent ultimate strength and superior ductility to a conventional reinforced concrete structure, the observed strain distributions in cross sections are linear from the neutral axis, and the theoretical displacement and strength capacities for yield and ultimate states can be designed by representing steel pipes as equivalent rebars.
