Standard of Care for Intervertebral Disk disease: Prognosis, Surgical Timing, Use'of Glucocorticosteroids

Establishing Standard of Care and Outcome Assessment guidelines facilitates standardizing treatment of patients and gauges the success of treatments and surgical centers with published clinical trial results. Having these documents also insulates us from irresponsible litigation and protects the public from hospitals that do not meet acceptable outcome criteria. Establishing standards of care is performed with evidence-based medicine, specifically peer-reviewed clinical studies. Lack of evidence forcertain treatments benefits suggests that further research is needed, and the indications for these treatments must be considered subjective.
