This paper analyzes the design of a multi-standard and multi-rate sub-sampling front-end for software radio systems. The front-end architecture uses a technique that incorporates programmable cascaded digital decimation stages to accommodate variable bit rates. The impact of non-idealities in the ADC on the system performance requirement is adressed briefly considering real time implementations. A noise figure equation that takes into account the effects of the quantization noise and the interference signal that may be incurred by adjacent bands is also derived. (C) 2007 Elsevier GmbH.
