John Fitzpatrick (JF): Tell us about your early life and interest in medicine. Edwin Darracott Vaughan: I grew up in a medical family. My father was a GP who later specialized in otolaryngology. After growing up in a small Virginia town, we moved to Richmond when I was in the sixth grade and stayed there through high school. So, I was oriented toward medicine from the beginning. JF: Did you ever consider anything else other than medicine? Vaughan: No, it was always medicine.
