Greece is attracting some heavy hitters to its efforts to become the crossroads for new gas supplies to Europe from the Caspian, Russia and East Mediterranean. Several big names competed for the 66% stake in Greek gas grid operator Desfa that went for €535 million ($628 million) in April to a group led by Italian counterpart Snam. New offshore bid rounds have meanwhile attracted the likes of Exxon Mobil, Total, Repsol and Italy's Edison, all keen to replicate Eni's success offshore Egypt, where its 850 billion cubic meter (30 trillion cubic feet) Zohr discovery in 2015 remains the biggest in the East Mediterranean.
