Winter has been playing havoc with the natural gas market. Late December cold pushed the expiring January prompt month to within a hair of $4 per million Btu, only to have the newly minted February prompt month plunge 900 over the next eight sessions. That swan dive included the largest one-day drop in two years — 39.70 — on the first day of trading in 2017, a sure sign of things to come.
