US On Track to Become Biggest LNG Exporter by 2020,Officials Agree

The US is well on its way to becoming the world's largest LNG exporter next year if the industry can remain innovative and keep a handle on costs.That was the message from industry officials at last week's Cera Week by IHS Markit conference in Houston,where they also cautioned that the market will be friendly only to the most forward-thinking players.”Innovation and technology and supply have all come together at the right time,”Hiroaki Osaki,president of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America's Oil and Gas Division,told Energy Intelligence.Andrew Walker,vice president of LNG strategy and communications at Cheniere Energy,said the checklist of things going right for the US LNG industry includes less volatile prices;a competitive gas market;pricing increasingly de-linked from crude oil;and strong federal government support.Walker said that by 2020 the US will have outpaced such LNG heavyweights as Qatar,Russia,Australia and Mozambique to take the top slot.”The US is having a fundamental impact on the LNG industry.It is very safe to say that US LNG is strengthening the global energy market.”
