SE Asia: leap of slab spot prices to cause upturn of quarterly prices for Q2 2010

Spot prices for slabs have predictably jumped in SE Asia. Russian suppliers had soldthe planned quantities of the material to Asian re-rollers at $460-470/t c&f till thebeginning of February, and mostly sellers of Brazilian semis remained in the market.Brazilian suppliers have realized that re-rollers are still in need of purchases acceptingprices by $35-50/t higher than transactions of Russian material, and immediatelyresponded by raising their offers by $50-65/t in six weeks, to $560-570/t c&f.
