During the PACOL process(paraffin conversion to olefin),some unwanted diolefins are normally produced.In some plants,the PACOL products are applied directly as the raw material in the formation of linear alkylbenzene(LAB).However,presence of diolefins within the alkylation reaction media usually led to formation of a number of undesirable byproducts and consequently,reduces the quality of the final product.Controlled hydrogenation of diolefins may be thus a convenient method by which the quality and quantity of LAB is enhanced.In the present study,the catalytic partial hydrogenation of diolefins present in PACOL products to mono-olefins has been conducted in a catalytic packed bed reactor.The effects of some pertinent para-meters of the process on the extent of hydrogenation of diolefins have been studied.It has been found that temperature,pressure,residence time and hydrogen to diole-fin molar ratio have to be controlled precisely,in order to prevent the total hydrogenation of diolefins and olefins to paraffins.A kinetic model,based on Rideal-Eley mechanisms has been derived for this process and the kinetic parameters have been determined as functions of temperature.
