These words sound like a typical day in the life since the pandemic: Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous. They create the acronym VUCA, which is newly popular but dates to 1987 and is making its way through management articles and websites these days. The concept of VUCA derives from military education but has more recently become popular in the realms of politics and business—for example, in the study of strategic leadership.Volatility is the speed of change in an industry, market or the world in general. It creates fluctuations in demand, turbulence and short time to markets; and it is well-documented in literature on industry "dynamism." The more volatile the world is, the more and faster things change.
