Corn plantings for the 2020/21 harvest are expected to jump by nearly 11% y/y, as farmers switch to spring crops after adverse weather hit sowing of winter varieties, the Farm Ministry's statistical unit, Agreste, said. Farmers will sow 1.603 mln ha of grain corn, excluding crop grown for seeds, up 10.9% from 2019, Agreste said in its first estimate of this year's area. That would be 12.2% above the average of the past five years.
