The Indian refined copper industry is facing a number of challenges, including high costs associated with shipping concentrates and competition from other countries which have a duty benefit on cathodes via free trade agreements. The removal/reduction of tariff on Chapter 74 items [copper) under various FTAs has opened floodgates for imports which Indian industry is not in a position to compete with, says JC Laddha, CEO - Copper, Hindalco Industries Ltd in an interview with MMR.
