The UK's shale gas commissioner has resigned after only six months in the job, saying fracking is being effectively banned in the UK because of rules intended to prevent mini earthquakes. Natascha Engel, a former Labour MP, told the Mail on Sunday she sent a resignation letter to the business secretary, Greg Clark, complaining that "government paralysis" over a review of regulations of fracking-induced earthquakes was "effectively putting an end to fracking in the UK".
