DEMAND FOR cobalt is high and is only expected to increase in the coming years. In an effort to ensure that it is responsibly sourced, Ford Motor Co. is teaming up with technology giant IBM, South Korean cathode maker LG Chem and China's Huayou Cobalt to create the first blockchain project to monitor cobalt supplies from Democratic Republic of Congo, where most of the world's cobalt is mined.
