摘要

Collecting just about anything related to mines and minerals can lead down some interesting rabbit holes. As a stamp and ephemera collector as well, it is especially pleasing when these multiple pursuits merge in a single find like the commemorative postcard for the 1904 World's Fair, illustrated in figure 1. Officially called the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, the event was commonly called the St. Louis World's Fair, and the exposition ran from April 30, 1904, through December 1, 1904. Sixty-three countries participated, the largest number of international exhibitors since the "World's Fair" concept originated in 1851. That record would stand until the 1970 Expo in Osaka, Japan. Previously unknown to me, the 1904 event contained an entire building and large tracts of outside exhibits devoted to mining and related topics.
