DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEMS AIM AT SMALLER PLANT APPLICATIONS

Distributed control systems (DCS) are traditionally aimed at automation of highly complicated and large process control applications. However, recently the world's largest automation providers have found a new area of interest. Specialty chemical plants, food processing operations, and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants are among those that have not yet been highly targeted by DCS providers. Reliable and advanced, but also complicated, large and expensive, traditional DCS systems suit safety critical and strategic businesses, such as oil and gas, energy, or chemical. Automation systems have proven their capabilities in those facilities, and smaller plants are also eager to benefit from advanced control to improve product quality and lower production cost.
