The end of World War II saw an explosion in manufacturing as the lessons learned from the war effort were translated to other industries. During the war, many new and exotic materials were developed, and ensuring the reliability of these materials demanded the ability to measure the presence of certain elements in extremely minute quantities. In 1946, a group of enterprising men recognized that the spectrograph offered the most reliable way to make these measurements. Thus was born National Spectrographic Laboratories, the forerunner of today's NSL Analytical Services Inc.
