Martin Morrison reports that twice during the Medal of Valor ceremony on 31 July 2017, President Trump used metric units, and only once legacy units. Metric units were also used in the reading of the written citation. Elizabeth Gentry of the NIST Laws and Metric Program reports that the Smithsonian National Museum of American History website shows a College of Fellows certificate from the US Metric Association, an award for USMA members who have done exceptional work for USMA and the metric cause. The item is described as follows: "This paper certificate has a wooden frame with a glass cover. It certifies that R. Maxwell Tinsley, the father of the donor, was elected a fellow of the US Metric Association on 16 June 1995. The certificate is signed by Lorelle Young, President, and Terry Richardson, Secretary, of the US Metric Association. The US Metric Association, an organization that promotes the use of metric units in the US, was founded in 1916 as the American Metric Association."
