Metal converts building appearance and use

Christensen Design Management designed an adaptive reuse project in Bellingham, Wash., that transformed a food processing building and warehouse into an office building, Gaston Bay Building. The project goal was to completely change the appearance of the building without changing the original envelope, constructed in 1930. The existing building is within a shoreline setback area, and is non-conforming to current regulations. It could not be enlarged; the existing footprint and height could not be changed.
