Countless structural subcontractors - and more than one prime - displayed an ever larger collection of innovative composite parts. In the main Hall 2, photos of a new carbon epoxy aft pressure bulkhead prototype made by DPRTM, using 98 tow, braided and tufted performs. This was part of an R&T (Research and Technology) exhibit on the German side of one of the several large EADS displays. It was sized for an A320 size aircraft. (Perhaps the new A318 - an all new-build aircraft in the growing A320 family - or even the entire A320 family soon? Around 20 per month are built at present).Elsewhere on that stand were pictures of a laser-welded, A320-sized forward fuselage aluminum section - including door - by Aerospatiale, described as lighter, simpler, less prone to corrosion - and less costly to produce. The point: metals do indeed fight back.
